Abstract
Mites inhabiting sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) plants and soil at Fayoum and Beni-suef governorates were surveyed during season 1998 - 1999. The survey revealed the occurrence of 56 mite species which classified into three main groups according to their feeding habits. Of these, three species are phytophagous, 31 species are predaceous and 22 species are omnivorous mites. Also, the population density of aerial and ground mites inhabiting sugar beet leaves and soil were greater in Fayoum (558indiv./50 leaves & 1550 indiv./500 grams soil)  than in Beni-suef (404&470), respectively during season 1998/1999
